I love recycling things. My card started by carefully cutting up an aluminum can and running through an embossing folder. I then sanded the sheet to take some of the blue color off the flowers for the silver of the aluminum to show. I trimmed it down to adhere to white cardstock. I trimmed a recycled gift card, rounded the edges and used a silver Sharpie marker to "soften" the edges. The button started as a plain white one that I colored with the silver Sharpie after it dried I used a Sakura White Gelly Roll pen to make the snowflake. Added some ribbon and a bow. Ta da!

ReplyDeleteWhat did you do about the sharp edges ?
ReplyDeleteI use a nail file to get rid of any metal burrs. And slightly bend in the outsides egdes - Kind of like you would shuffling a deck of cards. I love doubled sided tape, especially Scor-Tape. Thank you so much for asking! I love to get comments. I hope that helps.
ReplyDeleteKind regards, jennifer
I love this, and have had your blog as one of my constantly loading browser tabs as a reminder to do this. I just cut my can (and haven't filed it yet, as a result, I'm bleeding in several places - so hopefully other readers of this will see this and know to really be careful with the cut can!). I need to hunt down a fresh nail file to take care of the edges before I get any more wounds. LOL I can't wait to make my cards with the cut metal, I have several birthday cards to make tomorrow, and I have high hopes for the embossed metal. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteCould I ask you did you use a Cuttlebug Embossing machine? What model? Because the ones I've looked at say they only emboss paper. And I'd really like to try out your aluminum can idea!
ReplyDeleteI have the Cuttlebug and Epic 6. I have used both of them to emboss aluminum. They both work great. Here are the links to the models...

I have a sizzix big kick. Will it emboss aluminum? I love this idea!
ReplyDeleteReally cute! I've been wanting to make some ornaments this year with my recycled soda cans...but I cannot find a way to make them stay FLAT. Did yours go flat from the embossing? I've tried putting them through my SideKick, just between the plates, without an embossing folder, but they don't flatten out. Also, what type of glue did you use? Thank you, (:
ReplyDeleteI like this! I have a stak of can ready to cut that I will try this for birthday card!

if you don;t want to worry about sharp edges alumni foil works great just make sure you fold you foil to the size of the embossing folder and that you have at least 6 or more layers of foil so you don't lose your embossed image
